Shared Resource Medusa's Myth
"Medusa's Myth" is a unit designed for grades 6-7. In this unit, students will examine the tone, structure, and theme development, which are characteristics of myths. They also will explore the issue of body image for middle school students, while writing original myths to convey a message of self-esteem to peers. Various literary devices (personification, hyperbole, etc.) will be studied to determine how they can be used to develop a theme. Based on their study of exemplars, students will compose original myths, incorporating several of the devices studied to develop a theme of their choosing.
